Back in the autumn of 2022, the process surrounding the Nagbøl solar park began, when both the closest neighbors and the municipal administration were informed of the desire to establish the facility. This was followed by a dialogue-creating process, which – in addition to citizen meetings – consisted of a number of dedicated working group meetings with a focus on discussing questions, ideas and initiatives with a view to creating the best possible project together.
As a result, both municipal and local interests in and around the area have become an integrated part of the project. Specifically, initiatives such as trail systems and neighbor shares have been developed as a direct result of the dialogue.
In the spring of 2023, another major citizens' meeting was held, where both municipal politicians and administration participated. At the end of this meeting, Ænergy was invited to submit an application for the establishment of the solar cell plant, and local planning for the project was subsequently initiated. The draft local plan was approved by the city council of Kolding Municipality on 24 September 2024, and the final local plan was adopted on 26 March 2025.
The project includes a modern solar cell system, which is combined with a 36 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The battery system makes it possible to store power during periods of high solar production and release it again when demand in the electricity grid is greatest. This solution increases the flexibility and utilization of green energy and at the same time contributes to grid stability and security of supply. The combination of solar energy and battery storage makes Solcellepark Nagbøl one of the most forward-looking energy projects in the region and a clear example of how local collaborations and technological innovation can go hand in hand in the green transition.
In March 2026, the final investment decision for the project was made, and establishment work will begin during April 2026.
The plant is expected to be ready for production in Q2 2027.
