Solar park Kroghøj is located north of Vildbjerg and was completed and commissioned in June 2025.
The plant forms a central part of the Vildbjerg Green City initiative, where local forces, companies and Ænergy work together to create a more sustainable energy supply. The project was initiated in 2022 and has since been developed in close dialogue with Herning Municipality and local stakeholders.
The solar park covers a net area of approximately 70 hectares and has an installed capacity of 44 MWp, corresponding to an annual production of around 52 GWh – enough to supply approximately 13,000 households with green electricity.
To increase the flexibility of the plant and the utilization of the solar energy produced, a 20 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is planned.
The battery system enables the storage of energy during periods of high solar production, which can then be released at times of higher demand or low production.
Thus, the Kroghøj project contributes not only to the production of renewable energy, but also to grid stability and efficient integration of solar energy into the electricity system.
Ænergy sees the Kroghøj project as an example of how solar energy and energy storage can be combined to create a more robust and sustainable electricity grid – for the benefit of both the climate and the local community.
The solar park was commissioned in June 2025, and the BESS addition will take place during the spring of 2026.
The entire plant was sold to the Norwegian energy company Endra in September 2025.
